In this bilingual cooking program presented by Esther Gomez , we'll explore the story and traditions of a staple ingredient in Latin American cuisine: corn. First, we’ll unravel the mystery of how the god Quetzalcoatl helped the Aztecs discover the precious corn. Why was this golden grain hidden away, and how did it become the lifeblood of Latin America? After the story, you’ll dive into making your very own handmade sope. From preparing the dough to topping it with refried beans, crisp lettuce, fresh cheese, and salsa, you’ll craft one of Mexico’s most delicious antojitos. It’s a hands-on journey from story to flavor. Each participant will receive a generous sample of the prepared dish. While this is a family-friendly program, please note children under age 13 must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver.
